Clinical trials in endometriosis

The key mission of the World Endometriosis Research Foundation (WERF) is to facilitate and carry out well powered international multi-centre clinical trials involving sufficient patient numbers to provide results of statistical significance in order to improve knowledge and treatments.

WERF prioritises studies according to their ability to address:

• unmet clinical needs in the management of endometriosis
• scientific excellence; and to ensure that:

1. collaborative research is carried out between international centres
2. datasets are shared
3. encouraging results lead to further research
4. strict protocols are enforced to ensure research is of high quality
5. results can be translated into viable treatments.

Any proposals submitted to WERF will be reviewed by its Peer Review Board.

At present WERF is conducting three prospective epidemiological studies to address:

• The impact of endometriosis (Global Study on Women's Health)
• The predictability of endometriois (Women's Health Symptoms Study)
• The direct and indirect cost of endometriosis (EndoCost)

WERF is now working with 29 centres in 20 countries.

WERF will make announcements on this website as/when there are sufficient funds available to issue a call for proposals for additional studies.
