Dr. Schenken is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA).

He obtained a B.S. Degree in Chemistry from Stanford University in 1974 and his M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine in 1977. He completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UTHSCSA and a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the National Institutes of Health. He is Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

He is Director for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), and formerly Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology (ABOG). He is an examiner for the ABOG Basic and Subspecialty Oral Examinations. He has been a member of the Society for Gynecologic Investigation (SGI) since 1985. He served as SGI Program Chair in 1990 and Local Arrangements Chair in 1991 and 1992. He received the SGI President’s Scientific Achievement Award in 1994. He was elected to the SGI Council in 1998.

He served on the Board of Directors for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and was president of the ASRM in 2005. He served as President of the Society for Reproductive Endocrinologists in 1994 and Program Chair for the ASRM in 1996. He serves on several editorial boards and is Associate Editor for the Reproductive Sciences and Fertility and Sterility.

His clinical and basic research interests are endometriosis, mature women’s health, assisted reproduction and regenerative medicine. He is principal investigator on related research projects funded by the National Institutes of Health and other organizations.

Dr. Schenken is a founding board member of the World Endometriosis Research Foundation.
